Right now, a trip to London is all about the January sales. With brilliant bargains to be found in the all the major high-street chains and department stores, it’s no wonder the streets are almost as busy as they were in the run-up to Christmas.
With February around the corner, however, the country’s ‘professional shoppers’ will soon be soon be dispersing, which means that the second month of the year is the perfect time to re-discover the capital’s more cultural delights.
Here are my top five suggestions for things to do next month…
Leonardo da Vinci Exhibition, National Gallery (Ongoing till 5 February)
‘Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan’ is the most complete display of da Vinci’s rare surviving paintings ever held. This unprecedented exhibition – the first of its kind anywhere in the world – brings together sensational international loans never before seen in the UK, and focuses on the work he produced as court painter to Duke Lodovico Sforza in Milan in the late 1480s and 1490s. Truly unique and a must-see for all fans of fine art.
Tickets are very hard to come by for this incredibly popular exhibition, however our concierge team are able to source some tickets but they can be expensive. If you would like to enquire about tickets, then please get in touch with our concierge team.
Kew’s Tropical Extravaganza, Kew Road (4 February – 4 March)
As its name suggests, the main focus of Kew’s annual festival are colourful and varied displays of exotic tropical flowers and foliage. This year’s theme for is ‘Forces of Nature’, with displays inspired by the elements air, fire, water and earth, and arranged according to colour. The festival also illustrates how plants and fungi both depend on and moderate the elements. For those who prefer to do rather than watch, there are hands-on sessions and behind-the-scenes tours, including the opportunity to explore the tropical nursery.
Doctor Who Experience, London Olympia (Until 12 February)
Packed with amazing special effects and exclusive filming with Matt Smith, this multi-sensory experience is a great family day out, and a Mecca for die-hard fans. Visitors can join the Doctor on an interactive journey that takes you on a spectacular adventure through time and space, as you fly a recreation of the iconic TARDIS! Al of the series scariest monsters can be seen too, and it goes without saying that you’ll bump into one or two Daleks along the way!
Bingo, Young Vic, (16 February – 31 March)
A fictional account of the retired William Shakespeare at his Warwickshire home in 1615 and 1616, this thought-provoking plays sees Shakespeare, played by Patrick Stewart, wrestling with a moral dilemma that is reminiscent of King Lear’s in the bard’s famous tragedy. An actor of immense experience, Stewart is rightly regarded as one of the finest Shakespearean actors going.
